DBT Principles in Action: Acceptance, Change and Dialectics - Charles R. Swenson

I first saw Charles (Charlie) Swenson talk at a DBT Intensive Training in the early 2000s. He was warm, funny, and had a way of breaking down clinical concepts  that made sense to me. When I saw that he had published a book in 2016, I ordered it right away.

DBT Principles in Action is different from most of the DBT workbooks in that it focuses on the individual therapy portion of the treatment. While there are other text books on the subject, this is the most readable and relatable that I have found.

If you are a clinician looking to do a deep dive into DBT theory to understand why DBT treatment works, or if you are interested in  improving your adherence within individual therapy sessions, this is the book for you. Charlie offers compassionate case examples to make the theory and interventions understandable. I have read this book twice, and I think I could read it again and learn more.
